In
a span of three months, Lediya and I were able to visit two of the
country's top chefs: Ming Tsai of Blue Ginger and Matsuharu
Morimoto of Morimoto. These two made their reputations for
pioneering the Asian fusion and neo-Japanese cuisines that are popular
today.
At Blue Ginger, we tried Tsai's signature appetizer, shiitake and leek spring rolls with three chili dipping sauce. This dish is a must order for the egg roll connoisseur. We also ordered his signature dish, the Sake-Miso marinated Alaskan butterfish. The sake de-emphasizes the oily texture of the fish, while the miso smoothes it out for a truly magnificent taste. Click here for the menu. Not to be outdone, Morimoto's omakase (chef's choice) menu is simply outstanding. The best item on the menu to me is the yellowtail tartare. For Lediya, she liked the black-cod miso. For $40, you get five dishes, plus dessert. Of course, we did not leave without the dish that Morimoto is famous for: the assorted sushi plate. The plate is loaded with the freshest fish and the tastiest eel. Click here for the menu. |
