                        Engagement

paolo says: 

For her Christmas gift, I decided to buy Lediya a weeklong trip to Paris.  At that point, my professional life was changing.  I had just resigned from my nuclear chemist job that I had held for nearly five years and I was about to enter business school.  Since I was about to embark on a new journey, I decided I needed Lediya more than ever.  I had decided about two weeks before our trip that I was going to propose to her in Paris at the Eiffel Tower.  I didn't have a ring, but I secretly brought Lediya's amethyst ring with me.  On the fourth night of our vacation, we made our way up to the top level of the tower.  We were looking for a place to sit and as fate would have it, there is this single stool tucked away in the corner, away from the crowd.  It seemed to me at that time that everything was set up for that moment, the moment when I got down on one knee and asked her to be with me for the rest of my life.

lediya says:

Before we went on our trip to Paris all my friends and coworkers were saying that Paolo would propose.  But in my mind, I just didn't think he would be prepared.  So when we sat up there in the Eiffel Tower I was quite taken aback when he knelt down on one knee.  After being together for 9 years, he told me he was ready to spend the rest of his life with me.  I was overwhelmed with emotion and love.  I didn't know what to say but that I would of course marry him.  It was such an unexpected moment in my life that I will always remember.  And it happened in such a beautiful city.  I will never forget Paris.
